Mathematics Colloquium
"L'art et la mathématique " by Cédric Villani (Institut Henri Poincaré,
Paris, Fance)
Time: 4:00pm, Wednesday, 11th of November.
Place: Teatro Académico Gil Vicente, Coimbra.
Cédric Villani is unquestionably one of the most famous mathematicians
of present day. He received several national and international prizes
for his research, in particular the Fields Medal, in 2010, the highest
honour a mathematician can receive. Since then he has served as a
spokesperson for the french mathematical community in media and
political circles.
He will speak about the role of intuition, creativity and beauty in
Mathematics.
The colloquium will be followed by a panel discussion with Jorge Buescu
(Univ. Lisboa), Paula Oliveira (Univ. Coimbra) and Cédric Villani,
moderated by Carlos Fiolhais (Univ. Coimbra).
This event is organized by Fundação Francisco Manuel dos Santos jointly
with CMUC and DMatUC.
