Subject: Växjö University, Sweden, is searching new partner universities

Dear Colleagues,
My name is Elena Vinci Hytter and I work as international coordinator at the School of Technology and Design at Växjö University, Sweden.

The School of Technology and Design at Växjö University is looking for new partners
at undergraduate (mainly advanced) level for students' and teachers' exchange (Socrates/Erasmus).

The School consists of 7 departments and the administration. We are about 120 people employed and educate 750 full-time students per year.
The research is carried out with close collaboration with the south Swedish corporations.
The School of Tehnology and Design is located at Campus and the main part of our activities take place in the largest modern wooden house in Northern Europe: 11 400 square meters, the "M-house", or "Trähuset" as it is called in Swedish.

Expertice offered:
Bioenergy: As a part of the School of Technology and Design we carry out research in the area of Bioenergy technology. The group consists of 15 people. Close to our research we run the undergraduate programme in Bioenergy Engineering. It is a new education which brings the Universities profile even further in the field of environmental concern.

Chemistry: We are about 15 people that work with undergraduate education, alongside with our research. The department has a clear technological approach. We also educate teachers in elementary school and high school in the line of Chemistry, the teachers in preschool has possibilities to educate themselves with us. The department works closely together with the Institute of Glass Research that gives us unique competence in the Glass area. As far as the undergraduate education is concerned we offer an engineering programme as well as teachers training, and a 1-year Glass Design programme. In the fall of 2006 we start a new programme, that is an engineering programme in material technique, focusing on Glass.

Forest and Wood Technology: At the moment a distinctive research endeavour is carried out in the area of Forest and Wood Technology. Education and research is directed in four areas: The forest, Wood as material, Construction and manufacturing, Economics/market and trade.
Research together with education forms Växjö University to a Wood technological centre that is a gathering position for research, industry and the general public in tasks regarding the forest-, wood- and construction industry. ~
The region around Växjö is one of Europe's most important areas concerning forestry and forest industry. Forest and Wood technology at Växjö University works with a wide scientific area. Including the whole chain from forest to manufactured products and the development of new wood products for construction and interiors.
The department educates engineers in the areas of forest, wood and civil engineering. The programmes are three to four years and starts of each autumn. We also give popular courses in the forest area via Internet.

Mechanical Engineering: At the department we have started the important work of developing the research area Heavy Vehicles. It is in close teamwork with the industry that the project has been launched and started to move rapidly.
We educate engineers and technicians that are offered to spend a part of their education in some other country of their interest. This is a way to make them fit for a future on a global industry. We are proud to offer the possibility to study all the way to a master's degree in Mechanical Engineering. Three under graduate programmes are offered by the department, in cooperation with the department of Design, and the School of management and economics. We develop courses for international students.

Terotechnology (Systems Engineering): Terotechnology is often met by a question -What is that? And we will try to describe the term. In Swedish the name is "Systemekonomi" which if it were translated directly would be System economics. But this subject is more multifaceted than just economics even if that is, in the end, what it is about. We say that our students learn how to take a product from raw material to trade in a proficient way. To do that you need to know about economics, technology, people (workforce), mathematics and computer science, al with focus on the companies production systems. Together with those fundamentals they need to know logistics, product development, project management and more, altogether this is Terotechnology.

Within Fall 2007 we will start courses in English within Design and Civil Engineering.

Expertice sought:
Our School of Technology and Design is looking for new partners in the above mentioned fields of Engineering at an undergraduate level for students and teachers' European exchanges.

We would be very interested in establishing contacts with European Universities in order to initiate Socrates actions like an Erasmus programme which would include an exchange of teachers and students.

I enclose to this message a publication containing the courses in English offered at our School.
For further information and interest in starting a cooperation, please contact me!

With my best regards,
Elena
