"Supercritical Fluids: Applications and Opportunities"

Supercritical fluid processes for the natural products extraction have 
been the focus of intensive research for more than 30 years and 
commercial plants are spread worldwide. More recently, new research 
interests have been growing on biomass, materials, pharmaceuticals and 
so on.In this talking, some applications of supercritical fluids 
processing on the formation of pharmaceutical particles are presented. 
Some precipitation techniques are shown according to the role of the 
supercritical fluid in the process: Rapid Expansion of Supercritical 
Solutions (RESS), Gas Antisolvent (GAS), Supercritical AntiSolvent (SAS) 
and Particles from Gas-Saturated Solutions (PGSS). Three case studies 
are targeted to pharmaceutical nanoparticles formation and encapsulation 
in supercritical fluid medium for controlled drug delivery systems.
